Wii Fit

Okay, I have wanted Wii Fit for awhile but every time I thought to stop at electronics it was sold out. I finally got it 2 weeks ago and then the weather turned nice so I started walking outside. I finally tried it tonight. It was fun! Some of the strength training was tough. The aerobics weren't overly hard but I guess it gets harder as you unlock new challenges.
I was happy that it figured my "Wii Fit age" to be 9 years younger than I am, but it also told me I was overweight. Like I didn't already know that. I'm not hugely overweight, I just want to lose 10-20 pounds. I have found that the older I get the harder it is getting to lose weight and keep up with a consistent exercise program.
So anyway, if you have been thinking about Wii Fit, check back and I'll let you know how it is going!

Hot in the Northeast

After weeks of everyone complaining and asking where the warm weather was...boom! We go from 50 to 85 degrees overnight. Although I wanted some warm sunshine it was too much, too quick. A week ago, I laid out in the sun and lasted less than a half hour and was too cold because the sun kept creeping behind the clouds. Yesterday I couldn't stay in the sun on my deck it was so hot. Of course the air conditioners weren't in yet so last night it got humid and was unbearable for sleeping upstairs. I ended up on the couch under the ceiling fan. Today was also hot but not as hot so it is bearable.
All I have heard about today, in the news, on the internet, on tv...the swine flu. Part of me thinks it is all hype, the media always gets everyone worked up. But part of me wonders, what if this does spread like crazy? They have had confirmed cases in New York and I am in Connecticut so it is not that far away. This is scary. I am really tired of hearing about it, not because I want to bury my head in the sand but because I would rather stay optimistic and think about happy things. I don't want to think about millions of people dying. I want to think about someday retiring to a cabin in the woods, my son growing up and getting to experience life.....
That is enough of that. Talk to you later!

Beautiful Weekend

Hi Everyone:

Well, it is Monday morning and I am back at work after a great weekend. I took Friday off and it was a beautiful day. We went walking in the woods and hayfields behind my house and it was just so nice out. My son left to go camping for opening day of fishing season with his friend. On Friday night, we were on our way to visit our friends when we came upon a brush fire. We were the second ones there, the fire department had already been notified but weren't there yet. It was very exciting, I have never seen a brush fire up close like that. We called our friends to tell them where we were and they came down. Since my friend Kevin is a firefighter he ended up getting called in. All in all there ended up being about 13 fire departments there. It wasn't a huge fire but it was very treacherous to get to. So that was my excitement for Friday night.
On Saturday, we went back to the brush fire scene - it was where there are many state walking trails - to survey the damage. The smell was overpowering. The ground was all ashes and the bottoms of the trees were black. The surrounding unburned woods were trampled from the firefighters. I felt sad for the trees that were blackened, knowing many could die.
All right, on to more happy things. Since my son was away, I wanted to do something spontaneous and different. So we got in the car with really no destination and headed north. We live in CT - we ended up all the way through Massachusetts and into Vermont. I have always loved Vermont, we used to go there every fall but haven't been in a few years. Next we traveled over to New Hampshire. I know you may think it is crazy, we had no goal of where we were going, just driving. I enjoy that - just looking at the views and seeing places I haven't seen. We ended up halfway across the New Hampshire/Mass southern border and headed back to VT. We ate at a cute little place called Father's. We had delicious New England Clam Chowder and grilled cheese. Nothing exciting but homemade and delicious. Then we headed home. So we hit four states just to go out to lunch. Crazy?
Sunday was a mellow kind of day. It was sunny and beautiful. We had to go to a spaghetti dinner for my son's Civil Air Patrol Unit. The food was good and it was fun. We enjoyed it.
Now it is Monday, back to work. The only good thing is that I work in a school and it is vacation week (for the kids anyway, I have to work). So it is quiet and peaceful here.
Today is my son's 14th birthday. I find it hard to believe it was that long ago. Time flies.
Have a great week!

Hi Everyone, Happy Good Friday!
It was great having today off. The day started out beautiful sunny and warm. I ran out and got a ham for Sunday and stuff for my son's easter basket. I did explain to him (he's 14 next week) that I was only putting a few things in his basket this year (it's usually way too much stuff anyway - candy, fishing tackle, gift cards, etc.) because he is bugging me for an IPod Touch for his birthday. I asked him what was wrong with the IPod Nano I got him last year for his birthday? Oh, well that's old now, everyone in school has an IPod touch. So.....I try not to spoil him, but I'm pretty much all he has so I try to keep him in fashion with the other kids.
I can't believe he is going to be 14 next week. It seems like he was just two (and I hadn't even reached 30 yet.....). Time flies, much too fast. Sometimes I think of how much time I have left and I panic about all the things I wanted to do and haven't done yet. It's been said a million times but it's so true - life is too short. If only we could live to 200 and look at 50 how we looked when we were 25. So I may spoil my son some but I can never get back his childhood and if 14 years flew by that quick he will be grown up and gone before I know it!
I went on a beautiful hike through the woods and fields behind my house. It is so peaceful and serene, no traffic, no dogs...just the leaves under my feet and the soft rushing of the river and bubbling of the connecting brook. I love it out there. Very refreshing.
I had a good week. In one week and two days I have had five sales on Etsy. I am so excited and optimistic that I can do well at this. I'm having fun, anyway.
To anyone reading this, I hope you have a great weekend and a Happy Easter!

Hi! I know it's old but Thank God It's Friday! I have had a great week all in all. I made my first invitation sale out of my home based shop on Monday. On Tuesday, I made my first sale on my Etsy site, plus I have a few promising inquiries.
Today was a very good day. I work in a middle school office. I am the secretary to the principal. The other secretary and myself attended a conference for school secretaries today. It was at an upscale resort and spa. Talk about eating....continental breakfast was nothing like the Best Western. Fresh fruit, coffee, bagels, toast, muffins, danishes. Then an hour and a half listening to a very motivational speaker. Then a break and another hour and a half learning about school laws. Then lunch was a lovely tossed salad, tuscan chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. And if that weren't enough, an awesome chocolate and whipped cream dessert! Then back to an hour of school law. Next, we were off to the "ball room" where there was a huge spread of cookies and coffee. I had one...I just couldn't eat anymore. Then we had 45 minutes of a musician and comedian. She was quite funny, it was a blast. Then they did a raffle of beautiful spa items (I didn't win) and it was over.
As it was wrapping up, I could hear thunder. I told my co-worker, let's go and beat the rain...too late, it was pouring. We had no umbrellas. I volunteered to go get the car and some nice lady from the conference offered me her umbrella if I would give her a ride to her car after I got mine. Great, this wouldn't be so bad. I trotted about 5 feet and went up to my ankles in water. Stupid me was wearing high heeled flip-flops. (It is spring....I thought it was going to be nice). Now I'm soaked up to my ankles.
The car ride home was slow and tedious in the rain. But finally, I have arrived, still stuffed and I am not making supper!!! It will be what we call "fend for yourself night" in my house.
Looking forward to a great weekend. Hope you are too!

Welcome to My Blog

Hi! If your reading this, well thank you for stopping by! I have just started this blog and this is new to me.
Let me tell you a little about me. I just recently opened an invitation business out of my home. I have a shop for my invitations on Etsy and I am in the process of setting up a website. So with all of this going on, I am completely overwhelmed! Did I mention I also work full time in a school office?
I have designed flyers, business cards, invitations, etc. for years for family and friends or just for fun. It was always in the back of my mind that I would like to do this as a profitable business but children, family and bills got in the way. I finally decided with the economy the way it is that I would take the plunge, hanging on to my so far stable full time job and giving this a wing on the side. I figure by the time the economy straightens out I should be fully established.
Besides designing invitations, I enjoy making wood signs and hand-made cards. I also like hiking, camping, four-wheeling, playing cards, antiquing and just hanging out with friends.
I look forward to meeting new people and making new friends. Share your blog with me.
Thanks for your time and interest!
